Elena is a clinical psychologist who specialises in trauma-informed interventions. She began practising as a psychologist in 2019 and pursued further postgraduate study, completing a Master of Clinical Psychology in 2021. She enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds and with various presentations.
In 2020, she completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This modality helps to process difficult, stressful memories, which are often the root cause of maladaptive beliefs and coping mechanisms. This further inspired her interest in other trauma-informed interventions such as Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Deep Brain Reorienting. She also utilises Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when indicated. She has completed Level 1 IFS training in 2023, which is non-pathologizing evidence-based psychotherapy. She now primarily specialises in working with adults who seek trauma-informed interventions.
She believes in looking beyond the current symptoms to gain awareness of how prior life experiences have shaped our personality and nervous system responses and what stories we have developed about ourselves, others, and the world. Some of these responses, while useful in the past, may no longer serve us and prevent us from meaningful living and social engagement. Therapy seeks to process distressing memories, strengthen positive beliefs, and develop new ways of responding that are supportive of our mental health.
